Melissa Sandler, MEd, is an Understood Teacher Fellow and a third-grade general education teacher at Ashburton Elementary School in Bethesda, Maryland. She co-teaches a special education inclusion class. In this role, she has experience differentiating instruction, creating meaningful and engaging lessons, and providing a classroom environment and a management system that meet the needs of all learners. Previously she taught first grade at Sherwood Elementary School in Sandy Spring, Maryland. Sandler is a National Board Certified Teacher in the subject area of early to middle childhood literacy.
Sandler holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, with a reading specialist certification from the University of Maryland, College Park. She is certified to teach grades Pre-K through 6 and has a certification in special education as well. Sandler is pursuing a certificate in educational leadership through Hood College. She is passionate about creating a learning environment that makes all students and families feel welcome and included.
